Diabetes fact is about a disease in which the body does not produce or properly use insulin. Insulin is a hormone that is needed to convert sugar, starches and other food into energy needed for daily life. The cause of diabetes continues to be a mystery, although both genetics and environmental factors such as obesity and lack of exercise appear to play roles.

There are around 21 million children and adults in the United States, or 7 percent of the population, who have diabetes. While an estimated 15 million have been diagnosed with diabetes, unfortunately, 6 million people (or nearly one-third) are unaware that they have the disease. There are three types of diabetes. The most common types of diabetes are Type 1 Diabetes and Type 2 Diabetes, followed by Diabetes Gestational :

  • Type 1 Diabetes is a form of diabetes mellitus. It is formerly known as "childhood" or "juvenile" diabetes or "insulin dependent" diabetes is most commonly diagnosed in children and adolescents.

  • Type 2 Diabetes is a form of diabetes that caused metabolic disorder (also known as adult-onset or non insulin dependent) in which the body has trouble using its own insulin to control the blood sugar.

  • Gestational Diabetes is a form diabetes that develop in some women during the late stages of pregnancy. Although this form of diabetes usually goes away after the baby is born, a woman who has had it is more likely to develop type 2 diabetes later in life. Gestational diabetes is caused by the hormones of pregnancy or a shortage of insulin

Diabetic Diet Plan is for you if your diabetes test report is positive. Your doctor has probably mentioned that you should pay careful attention to nutrition and diet as part of your treatment program. Nutrition experts say that there is no one diet for diabetes, but people with diabetes should follow the nutrition guidelines in the Food Pyramid, while paying special attention to carbohydrate intake. People with diabetes should also eat about the same amount of food at the same time each day to keep blood sugar levels stable.

Many people have the misconception that diabetic diet consist only diabetic foods. The diet for diabetics is simply a balanced healthy diet, which is vital for diabetic treatment. The regulation of blood sugar in the non-diabetic is automatic, adjusting to whatever foods are eaten. This helps diabetic patient to maintain the desirable weight and control their glucose level in their blood. It also helps to prevent diabetes patient from heart and blood vessel related diseases. Research shows that regardless of the makeup of the diet, eating just enough calories to maintain an ideal weight is the most effective dietary strategy to prevent the onset of diabetic.
