Diabetes Warning Sign

Diabetes often goes undiagnosed because many of its symptoms seem so harmless. Sometimes the symptoms are very obvious, and sometimes they are not. Diabetes can cause serious complications, So, get yourself familiar with the warning sign of diabetes.

Type 1 Diabetes

  • Excessive thirst / dehydration - That's because excess glucose circulating in your body draws water from your tissues, making you feel dehydrated.

  • Frequent urination - To quench your thirst, you drink a lot of water and other beverages, and that leads to more frequent urination.

  • Extreme hunger - Rapid changes in blood sugar can stimulate appetite. Even though you are eating, you still feel hungry.

  • Rapid weight loss - Due to the insulin necessary to prompt appropriate cellular metabolism and muscle growth is missing.

  • Blurred vision - Changes in vision can strike, for instance, as high blood sugar levels affect water in the eye, actually reshaping the lens

  • Bad breath - Result of cellular sugar uptake failure.

  • Nausea and vomiting

  • Irritability and mood changes

  • Lethargy

Type 2 Diabetes

Type 2 diabetes is usually not diagnosed until complications have occurred. Most often, there are no symptoms or a very gradual development of the above symptoms.

  • Blurred vision

  • Recurring skin, gum or urinary tract infections

  • Rapid weight loss

  • Blackened skin around the eyes and knuckles

  • Dry mouth, gum disease and bad breath

  • Lethargy

  • Excessive thirst / dehydration

  • Tingling or numbness in the legs, feet or fingers

  • Frequent infections of the skin

  • Itching of skin (usually around the vaginal or groin area)

  • Slow-healing sores or cuts

  • Impotency

  • Irritability and mood changes

If you have any of these symptoms, contact your health care provider right away. A simple blood test (often done in conjunction with a cholesterol test) will give your doctor a clue about whether you have anything to worry about. Timely recognition of diabetes warning signs and diagnosis is critical.
